Digital Accessibility

All public administration websites must comply with the international WCAG 2.1 standard. It is the responsibility of public institutions (ministries, offices and local governments, schools and universities, hospitals, online services for citizens) to adapt websites and applications to people with disabilities.
We have experience in creating WCAG 2.1 compliant services for people with disabilities and others at risk of digital exclusion. We have carried out more than 300 audits of the websites of public entities.
As a Partner of the project carried out on behalf of the National Police Headquarters, we were responsible for the production of sites complying with the WCAG 2.1 standard (euslugi.policja.pl and childalert.pl), additionally confirmed by audits of external experts involving people with disabilities.

Create and customize
WCAG 2.1 websites

The Accessibility of a website and its compliance with WCAG 2.1 standard is not only a fundamental condition for public entities, but also a guarantee that its content will be more transparent and understandable to a much wider range of people. We support throughout the process of creating and maintaining Accessible websites – from design, through implementation, service training to supervision of changes. We also implement BIP (Bulletin of Public Information) websites.

The process of creating an accessible page:

  • We determine the architecture of the website.
  • We present the graphic design for acceptance.
  • We implement the project in modern programming standards.
  • We meet the conditions set by WCAG 2.1 at AA level. On special request – meeting the criteria of WCAG 2.1 AAA.
  • We implement bulletin of public information (BIP) sites.
  • We prepare the website based on the selected CMS system – content management system.
  • We draw up a Declaration of Accessibility.
  • We train you to operate the site and compose content.

Page customization process:

  • We pre-audit the site – we check for non-compliance with WCAG 2.1.
  • We prepare a preliminary report indicating accessibility issues.
  • We eliminate the errors found.
  • We add accessibility support elements.
  • On request – we are expanding the functionality of the site.

Once completed, the site will meet the requirements of WCAG 2.1, at least at the AA level, and will have an Accessibility declaration. We create our offer individually according to the needs of the Client and on this basis we prepare a quote.

Accessibility Audits

As part of the accessibility audit, we conduct a web page compliance test with the criteria set out in WCAG 2.1 at A and AA levels.

When auditing the website, we check all criteria for success of WCAG 2.1 compliance at AA level (or additionally AAA). Due to the complexity, but also the repeatability of the elements that appear on the websites, we select the most important subpages for auditing, which allows to significantly identify and later eliminate possible Accessibility gaps throughout the service.

Types of audits:

  •  automated audit, based on a number of tools checking elements such as correctness of site code, colour contrast + interpretation of results by an accessibility expert;
  • automated + manual test,
    based on tools that validate the site code (including interpretation) and by an accessibility specialist performing specific, service-specific tasks;
  • automated + manual testing + testing by people with disabilities.

The result of the test is a report containing all errors, indications of what elements are affected, and suggestions for correcting these errors.

Compose digitally accessible
content, documents,
and media

Adapting the text for people with disabilities is one of the cornerstones of digital accessibility. Many of the words or instructions commonly used in the common and even official language have a form that may be incomprehensible – and sometimes even tactless – for people with disabilities. Make sure that your terms and phrases are universal and neutral, and that your content language is implemented correctly on your site.

Range of services:

  • We check the language settings and the correct pronunciation of the site content in the sound programs.
  • We offer text correction for accessibility for people with disabilities.
  • We conduct a study of the intelligibility of the text.
  • We’re improving the formatting of text in documents (headings, paragraph styles, and character styles).
  • We will check the size and color contrast of the text.
  • We will supplement the graphics with alternative descriptions.
  • We will format the hyperlinks accordingly.
  • We will correct the descriptions of the forms.
  • We’ll add subtitles to the videos.

“Accessible websites” training

The purpose of the training is to learn the terms related to the Accessibility of websites and to familiarize yourself with the WCAG 2.1 standard (and certain levels of Accessibility). It will also show how people with disabilities use websites and the barriers they may encounter. We also discuss good accessibility practices.

The training is aimed at all persons connected with digital accessibility, especially employees of public institutions and NGOs, but also for those responsible for the creation and operation of websites (programmers, administrators, copywriters, editors, marketers).

Technical knowledge of web development or knowledge of WCAG is not required.

  • Introduction to the legal acts, their main provisions and what follows from them.
  • People with disabilities – an overview of how they use the Internet, what their needs are, what problems they may encounter.

  • Site code correctness and semantics.
  • Keyboard-only operation.
  • Use of screen readers to read content.
  • Text formatting.
  • Alternative content for images, video, and audio.
  • Navigation and breadcrumbs.

  • Color contrast and alternative color variants.
  • Forms and securing with CAPTCHA mechanisms.
  • Accessibility of DOC and PDF documents.
  • Policies for hiding items while maintaining digital accessibility policies.

I am very positive about training in website Accessibility in accordance with WCAG 2.1. Digital accessibility is very important to me as an employee of the City Hall, I make every effort to make the use of the website not only possible, but also comfortable. Already after training, I received information from a blind person that one of the attachments on the site is defective. The reader hung in one place and it was impossible to read the rest of the document. Thanks to the training, I did not have the slightest problem with improving the information in such a way that it was fully Accessible – which, moreover, was confirmed by the resident who wrote us an email.
